Ingredients:
For the steak:
2 beef steaks (sirloin or another affordable cut)
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp butter
For the mashed potatoes:
4 large potatoes, peeled and diced
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the potatoes: Peel and dice the potatoes, then place them in a pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Cook the steaks: While the potatoes are boiling, season the steaks with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time for preferred doneness.
Add garlic and butter: In the last minute of cooking, add minced garlic and butter to the skillet. Spoon the melted butter over the steaks. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes.
Mash the potatoes: Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk, then mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve: Plate the steaks and mashed potatoes, garnishing with any leftover garlic butter from the skillet. Enjoy your meal!
